Winning the Influential Woman Award has given us a platform to reach out to our female peers and provided opportunities to communicate with stakeholders and press to show how Soroptimist International supports and empowers women to effect change at local, national and international levels. We use the badges and photos in our communications, and produce publicity articles highlighting the success of our nominee, through Twitter and Facebook, and in our campaign newsletters which have nationwide distribution.
It was a complete shock to be nominated for the Venus Awards and I really didn’t know what to expect by being involved, but it’s been great fun and a big learning curve; going from nomination to winner has been a real roller coaster ride, scary, but a huge adrenalin high, at times daunting and a personal challenge to me to be so much in the limelight. It’s been both inspirational and insightful to be part of this event, and to have been privy to the scope of incredible talent in and around Poole. I feel proud and honoured to be a winner in such wonderful company.
Being nominated makes you feel wonderful - knowing your success is truly recognised, and even if you don’t win, you have great fun and laughter along the way. I say - raise your sights high, get into the arena, and surprise yourself at what you can achieve. You can only benefit from this amazing experience.
