Frances Burney was born on June 13, 1752, died January 6, 1840 she was an English novelist, diarist and playwright. She released her first novel Evelina, anonymously in 1778 when the books authorship was announced she received almost immediate fame. She followed with Ceciliain 1782, Camilla in 1796 and The Wanderer in 1814. All of Burneys novels explore the lives of English aristocrats, and satirise their social pretensions and personal foibles, with an eye to larger questions such as the politics of female identity.
Eleanor Marx was the daughter of Karl Marx. She was born January 16th 1855 died, March 31st 1898 she was a part of the women trade union she took part in the Bryant and May strike of 1888 which was for women and teens working 14 hour days in poor conditions. She took part in the London Dock Strike of 1889 which was a dispute about plus money – Plus money was a bonus paid for completing work quickly. She was a part of the Social Democratic Federation but later left to become part of the Socialist League where she wrote a column called “Record of the Revolutionary International Movement”.

Dame Anita Roddick was born October 23rd, 1942, died September 10th, 2007 Anita is the founder of the Body Shop, it originated in 1976 with one small shop in Brighton, 6 months later another shop had opened. By 1991 the Body Shop had over 700 branches. By 2004, the Body Shop had 1980 stores, serving over 77 million customers throughout the world. It was voted the second most trusted brand in the United Kingdom, and 28th top brand in the world. She is one of the most successful women to have come from Brighton.
Natasha Kaplinsky was born September 9, 1972 Natasha has hosted many news shows such as Sky News, Meridian, ITN, BBC news and Five news, Natasha started out on meridian and soon moved on to meridian tonight after only 6 months she then hosted ITVs London today and London tonight. In 1999 Natasha became only the third women to host BBCs ten o clock news which she continued to host occasionally throughout 2007. Natasha also attended the very prestigious Oxford University where she studied English.
Clare Joanne Connor OBE
Clare Joanne Connor OBE was born 1 September 1976, Clare is a female cricket player who made her debut on the mens team at Brighton College, in 2002 Clare became the first women to play in the cricketers cup and in 2006, she became the first woman to play for the all-star charity side, Lashings World XI. In 2004/2005 she captioned the womens England Cricket Squad to the semi-finals in South Africa. She was awarded an MBE in June 2004 and in February 2006 she was awarded an OBE.
Holly Willoughby was born February 10th, 1981. She started out in childrens television with such shows as Ministry of Mayhem. Her mainstream breakthrough came courtesy of ITV when she was selected to co-present Dancing on Ice, Holly has presented over 23 shows in her 12 year career she has won a BAFTA in recognition of her abilities as a childrens TV presenter. She has also been voted in the top 100 sexiest women every year since 2005. Holly Willoughby is dyslexic, which is something that will affect her in her career but Holly has shown you can achieve anything you want.
